I always thought that I'd make a living with computers in some capacity, seeing as it was what I went to school for. After I graduated from the Vancouver Film School for New Media, not only could I not find a job, but I soon had no interest in web design.
I got my first taste of leatherworking while living with Mr. Dark where I was his informal apprentice. A couple years later I got a job at Heritan Leather (later to become Tandy) where I was able to learn a lot more about the trade. While working at Heritan I had a chance to take some time off to work on Underworld 2 and Dungeon Siege, both as part of a team assembled by Mike, from Mike's Custom Leather. I also realized during this time that leather was what I wanted to do.
Late in 2005 I left Tandy when I was asked to work on the production Pathfinder for a few months by Brad Larson. I had replaced Brad at Heritan Leather when he left to start his own business. Pathfinder was easily the best working experience of my life, every day was a lot of fun, and everything was right up my alley.
In my brief time involved with the world of leather, I've worked on 3 movies, and had first hand experience with 3 incredible leatherworkers in Mr. Dark, Mike's Custom Leather, and Brad Larson. I've also found my niche with leather tooling, something not a lot of leathercrafters do these days. You'll notice a wide range of my work has images carved onto them.
